eTip: Don't Talk to Strangers - The Irony of Networking

Don't talk to strangers...

Don't go around spreading your business...

Don't enter into other people's conversations...

Don't...well...you know the sayings.

Isn't it ironic how networking goes against what most of us have been taught growing up? I'm not abdicating what our parents and guardians taught us, for what they taught was beneficial to our safety and behavior.

I advocate giving yourself permission to speak to strangers and not hold them in fear.

I advocate giving yourself permission to talk about your business, corporation, or hobby-turned-business, and to boast about it too! Toot your horn when you need to, so others will know how you contribute to your community and your society. What better ways can you become further empowered, when you are talking about the economic empowerment you are creating?

I advocate giving yourself permission to do the things you need to do to further your business, for how will we know if you don't tell us?

You don't have to be modest to do it. You don't have to gossip, nor talk negatively about anyone, including your competition...remember the words, "if you cannot say something nice..."

Guess what? You will have to talk to strangers.

Just do it in the spirit of cooperation and sharing.
